To experience Australia, you have to start with discovering and enjoying its beaches. Australian takes it beaches seriously . “The importance of the sea and the beach to us as people is reflected in our culture,” wrote journalist Jeena Reed Burns, “In art, literature, photography, and film, the beach is the stage on which most of life’s drama are played out — because it’s like that in real life.

It definitely is since all major cities in the country are near the water. From Victoria to Queensland, more than 70% of Australia’s population lives within the vicinity of the beach. Thus an Australian author, Robert Drewe, says, “almost every Australian rite of passage happens either on the beach, behind the dunes, or in the beach house nearby.” The seafront, he maintains, is where Australians establish important friendships as well as discover their own sensual beings. Architect Lindsay CLare pushes the point further, saying spending time at the beach “allows us to become more Australian.”

If you want to experience that Australian culture, try to stay in Sydney. The place is totally awesome and the people are friendly and amazing. And the beaches are beyond compare. actually, Sydney’s beaches are divided into two, the southern beaches which are south of Bondi and the norhern beaches which are north of Manly, with every beach in between distinct in flavor, character and ambiance.

Regardless of your body size and shape, you can strip down to your swimmer’s parade all you want, and enjoy any of Sydney’s beaches. Here are a few suggestions for the avid beach bum.

If you are into surfing you’d love to hit Bondi, Tamarama (on the south shore), Narrabeen, North Avalon, and Palm Beach (on the north shore). But, if you’re the type who enjoys swimming more, Camp Cove, Neilsen Park, Balmoral and Chinaman’s Beach would be the right spots to go to. While if you enjoy Body surfing, you would certainly love Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte (on the south shore), Whale, Newport, and just about any of the beaches lining the 30km stretch of coast from Manly to Palm Beach on the north shore. Lastly, If you simply love coastal bush walking, try to check Royal National, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase, Sydney Harbor’s national parks and the cliff side from Bronte to Bondi beach.
