Even though the poem is about a happy or joyful topic (love and happiness) it seems that the it is rather filled with sadness as the poet suggests the person will not find happiness and love since one will never get to the end of the rainbow and therefor chases an illusion. Sometimes one may not even see a rainbow after the rain.
