The Wedding Nuisance
Oz and I just came home from the nearby supermarket. On our way home, we’ve noticed a bridal car, and the couple who were in it looked really happy. Obviously, they just got married, they’re probably heading to a resort for their honeymoon or something.
I couldn’t help but smile, Oz grinned and teased me about getting wed and all, but I wasn’t really thinking about that. The couple reminded me of our friends RT and Anne who got married a couple of years ago. I was one of the people who were given a role to play for their wedding. They made me a part of the entourage, and I was also assigned to do the second reading from the gospel. I never had any experiences of attending weddings before, and worse I couldn’t make it to the rehearsals due to my very hectic schedule back then. It was a peak season for the business, most especially because international shows were lined up.
The wedding day came and I had an unexpected emergency meeting with the designers of a French-owned fashion accessories company. The client was really an important one, because the owner himself came to see our showroom to check out our new designs. Being the Client Relations and Marketing manager, it was my job to entertain them, and introduce our new designs for fall, as well as our concepts for the winter season.
My friends kept on calling up because everything was all set and the bride was almost at the church. I was really worried because they would really feel bad if I wouldn’t make it. So, I told everyone of my appointment and they were laughing saying I could’ve told them and just canceled the meeting. But of course I don’t want to be unprofessional, and I told the client how important it was for me to have them around. Kristoff, the French owner just laughed and said that the presentation was great and he’s going to make orders and promote our new designs to the French market. I was really glad, at least the efforts paid off. Good thing, my uncle came with our head designer and I excused myself from the meeting as they took down the orders. They wished me well and we all hoped that I would still make it. I drove really fast to the church, raced with time, and I made it.
I felt so lucky and blessed because I’ve chosen the alternative way, there wasn’t much cars along the way, otherwise I would’ve been caught up in a heavy traffic. I couldn’t believe I made it just right before Anne, the bride, got out of the bridal car. I parked the car immediately and ran to the line where my other friends who were part of the entourage were lined up, ready to do the march thingie. I sighed in relief, and was really glad that I made it. But, the problem was, I wasn’t dressed right for the occasion. I was just wearing jeans, shirt and for the burning god’s sake “sneakers”, I had an overcoat though, but still, it’s not the right attire for a wedding.
Everyone looked so fabulous, guys wearing the traditional Barong Tagalog and trousers, with the super shiny black shoes, and girls were wearing their gowns. My friends hugged me out of gladness. I hugged Anne and told her I might not be able to do my part because of my attire, but she was just so happy to see me there and she said it doesn’t matter, that she wouldn’t want anyone else to to do my part.
And so, I wiped the sweat on my forehead dry and marched together with everyone… and guess what? I’ve done the reading as well.
It’s one of the most unforgettable moments in my life, it was perfect.
My besty Oz was also a part of that wedding, he did the candle lighting thing. And now it’s Oz turn to be Best Man for his brother’s wedding. Gervais, his brother, will be wed this coming June, but they would also have a grand Miami Wedding within the year, because most of their relatives are already in Florida, including their parents and siblings. Miami Weddings are said to be really great, how I wish I could witness the event. Oz will be flying to Florida for that reason. I was even teasing Oz, perhaps he might get married there too. Ha-ha.

You’ve probably frightened poor Oz , and he’s going to be as nervous at his brother’s wedding as his brother, LOL!
You really have a knack for putting together great themes.
