Maripipi Island, Biliran, Philippines

Maripipi is an island where the sun warms the heart, the sea enlivens the soul, and the breeze calms the mind…

Maripipi was named after Maria (aka the world-wide known Maria CaCao) and Pepe ? who were believed to be the first settlers of the island.
An island encompassed with coco-line beaches, coral gardens rich in marine life are found in almost every rocky nooks and secluded coves.
Someone asked me where Maripipi is located. Actually I made a post about it already but sad to say it got deleted for some reason which i’m totally unaware of. Maripipi is located in Biliran Province, Region 8 (Eastern Visayas Region), Philippines.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology & Seismology, It’s a potentially active volcano. Perhaps that’s the reason why like Camiguin, It has a very rich soil and there’s also a cold spring and they’re saying a hot spring somewhere in the mountain part. I’ve been to the cold spring but I haven’t really gone to the hot spring yet. My parents never allowed us to go to the crater of the volcano especially coz of the old people’s belief of those mythical beings like the “aswang sa banwa”, banwa-anon, agta, kapre, etc.

How to get to Maripipi Island in Biliran?

If you’re in Cebu, you have to ride either a ship (overnight) to Naval, Biliran, then ride a pump boat/motor boat to the island. If you want a faster trip, you can ride a ferry to Ormoc City, then travel on a bus to Naval, Biliran, but then again you have to do the exciting boat ride. From Naval, it would take more than an hour before you set foot on the island depending on the weather condition. Most people pass by Naval but there also those who pass by Kawayan Island.

I won’t get tired “bragging” about this island paradise where i spent a few years of my childhood. I don’t know how my grandparents on my mom’s father side found it’s way to the island since they’re Chinese. While on my grandmother’s side, they originated from Bohol although they own ricefields in Baybay, Leyte and Masbate.

My grandparents served as teachers in Maripipi Island, Biliran, Philippines and I’m proud of them because they’ve molded their students into better persons who are now successful in their respective fields. Even my mom who was brought up and educated in Cebu City went back to the island to serve the local hospital as a Medical Technologist for a few years.

Although i was born here in Cebu, My parents brought me there when I was young and my days in the island were most memorable for me.

I will always love and treasure Maripipi Island, Biliran, Philippines
